Western Dental Services, Inc.—California’s largest dental services provider and one of the nation’s largest dental HMO’s—is looking for several bright, motivated, professionals with at least 3 years of experience as a database administrator (DBA) to join Western’s team of over 450 professionals and staff at Western’s corporate headquarters in Orange, California.

Position Responsibilities
Each position offered is full time, and will require (a) training and development to learn Western’s existing systems and applications, (b) strong organizational and team-work skills, (c) designing, maintaining, and supporting required application database system(s), including problem resolution, database configuration, capacity planning, performance tuning, backup and recovery; (d) collaboration with experienced professionals in Western’s Information Systems and other corporate departments, (e) good communication skills, (f) versatility in working with analytical and financial data, and creative information systems tools and reports, (g) good judgment and a strong grasp of people so as to work well with team members and members of all other Western Departments; and (h) lots of enthusiasm for seeing Western’s business improve constantly.
Technical responsibilities include:
- Supporting development, test and production SQL Server, Oracle and DB2 databases;
- Analyzing database requirements for Batch, OLTP and reporting and analysis applications
- Reviewing and approving application based scripts, utilities, stored procedures, functions, and triggers;
- Providing general database expertise to application projects;
- Assuring database integrity of production databases;
- Assuring security of database environment;
- Providing on-call support for database problems and off hour’s maintenance;
- Providing query performance monitoring and tuning recommendations;
- Installing and maintaining all DBMS, SQLServer, Oracle and DB2 databases;
- Performance database data loading and backups and recovery.
- Knowledge and experience with SOX Compliance
- Database performance tuning on SAN.

Job Requirements
Credentials Required
Experience
(At Least 3 Years Experience of Database Administration is Mandatory)
The candidate must have at least 3 years of database administration aggregate experience using Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005/2008;
- Experience working isupporting databases on Windows servers;
- Experience in managing multiple databases;
- Solid understanding of the principles and techniques used in all phases of database design, development, testing, deployment and maintenance;
- Advanced knowledge of database concepts, performance tuning, proactive monitoring and problem solving;
- Experience with high availability, standby, backup and recovery, large database management, partitioning, replication and cloning;
- Experience with database management, monitoring and tuning tools; and
- Experience with Stored Procedures, Triggers, DTS and other DBA scripts.
- Knowledge and experience with SOX Compliance
- Database performance tuning on SAN.
The following additional experience would be considered a big plus: IBM DB2, Oracle, and J D Edwards CNC experience; and application knowledge with Visual C++ and Web development.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, related engineering discipline or equivalent experience. Work experience can not be used to subsitute the required education.
